Marking her first appearance on court since her magical run to the US Open title this past month, women's champion Kim Clijsters returned to action at the BGL Luxembourg Open today against American Meghann Shaughnessy, and won easily in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
In the final week of the WTA's regular season, Kim Clijsters comes in to the tournament as the number 2 seed while holding the #18 spot in the world rankings after returning to the women's tour earlier this summer from a year and a half long retirement in which she married US basketball player Brian Lynch and gave birth to a baby daughter, Jada. She appeared to have lost none of her form in spite of her time away since winning the US Open, effortlessly breezing past Shaughnessy to advance to the second round.
